    The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) to Commander Doyle Wilmer Lynn, United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight for a coordinated attack on a group of PT boats in the vicinity of Quang Khe, North Vietnam, on 28 April 1965. As leader of a flight of five F-8D Crusaders, Commander Lynn used air-to-ground rockets to suppress the PT boats’ heavy anti-aircraft fire, thus allowing the attack bombers successfully and safely to make their low-altitude attacks which caused extensive damage to the boats.

    The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting a Second Gold Star in lieu of a Third Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) to Commander Doyle Wilmer Lynn, United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight for leading a flight of four aircraft on an anti-aircraft suppression mission against the Vinh Railroad Yards, North Vietnam, on 27 May 1965. Commander Lynn initiated the Air Wing attack with his flight in the face of intense anti-aircraft fire. His aircraft received fatal damage on the first run, entered uncontrolled flight, and crashed within the target complex. Commander Lynn’s leadership, courageous fighting spirit and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

    The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting a Third Gold Star in lieu of a Fourth Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) to Commander Doyle Wilmer Lynn, United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight in leading a flight of four F-8D Crusaders against Vinh Airfield, North Vietnam, on 8 May 1965. Commander Lynn initiated the flak suppression attack, destroying the assigned target. By making multiple runs against anti-aircraft guns and emplacements in conjunction with light bomber attacks, he contributed in large measure to the successful completion of this important mission.

    The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) to Commander Doyle Wilmer Lynn, United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Pilot of a jet aircraft in Fighter Squadron ONE HUNDRED ELEVEN (VF-111), serving aboard U.S.S. KITTY HAWK (CVA-63), during a flak suppression flight on 7 June 1964. While subjected to enemy ground fire and the threat of armed interception by hostile aircraft, Commander Lynn successfully attacked and silenced anti-aircraft batteries until he was forced to abandon his severely damaged aircraft. He displayed exceptional courage and resourcefulness in evading enemy ground forces until his rescue approximately 17 hours later.
