    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Aviation Radioman Third Class Edgar Milton Anderson (NSN: 8657177), United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as gunner and radioman of a carrier-based dive bomber assigned to attack major units of the Japanese Fleet in the East china Sea on 7 April 1945. During the action he skillfully and courageously aided his pilot in making a successful bombing approach despite heavy and accurate anti-aircraft fire by successfully utilizing his search equipment. His determination and devotion to duty were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Aviation Radioman Third Class Edgar Milton Anderson (NSN: 8657177), United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight in operations against the enemy in the vicinity of Iwo Jima, the Japanese homeland and Nansei Shoto. As aircrewman of a carrier-based dive bombing plane during the period 19 February 1945 to 4 May 1945, he participated in twenty strikes against enemy shipping, airfields and installations, inflicting extensive damage. His skill and courage were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
