The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Major Thomas Worcester Hyde, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 17 September 1862, while serving with 7th Maine Infantry, in action at Antietam, Maryland. Major Hyde led his regiment in an assault on a strong body of the enemy’s infantry and kept up the fight until the greater part of his men had been killed or wounded, bringing the remainder safely out of the fight.
