The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Commander Donald E. Brubaker (NSN: 0-125006), United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as the leader of an attack bomber in a strike directed against enemy rail installations in the heavily defended area of Pukchong, on 23 April 1952. While directing his flight in the destruction of enemy railroad bridges and bypasses, Lieutenant Commander Brubaker was wounded in the head by Communist anti-aircraft fire. Shaking of the stunning impact of the wound, he wheeled his plane around and, with unrelenting fury, pressed home two more attacks. His skillful flight leadership and daring tactics caused the destruction of two bridges and seven railroad bypasses. Lieutenant Commander Brubaker’s airmanship and cool courage in the face of known dangers were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
