(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Airman Daniel G. Cherry, United States Navy, was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy while serving as a crew member of a helicopter in Helicopter Utility Squadron TWO Detachment, attached to U.S.S. LEYTE (CV-32), in effecting the rescue of a drowning aircraft pilot in the Sea of Japan on 14 October 1950.
