The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Major Byron M. Cutcheon, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 10 May 1863, while serving with 20th Michigan Infantry, in action at Horseshoe Bend, Kentucky, for distinguished gallantry in leading his regiment in a charge on a house occupied by the enemy.
