The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Sergeant [then Staff Sergeant] Felix D. Ferrell (ASN: 38474600), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company F, 2d Battalion, 318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 25 November 1944 in France. Near Zimming, France, when his company was temporarily delayed by a hostile force, First Sergeant Ferrell voluntarily and alone attempted a flanking movement. Crawling over 150 yards of exposed terrain under severe machine gun fire, he boldly assaulted and destroyed one position, and forced 28 Germans to surrender in the face of his fierce charge. First Sergeant Ferrell’s gallantry and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
