The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) George H. Williams (ASN: 0-533516), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 21 November 1944 in France. Near Lauderfang, France, while leading a reconnaissance patrol, Lieutenant Williams observed an enemy machine gun. Halting the patrol, he, with utter disregard for safety, crawled to the emplacement, pulled the gun from the position, and killed the crew. His actions drawing fire, he returned to the patrol and skillfully led them to safety. Lieutenant Williams’ aggressiveness, leadership, and courage were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
