The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Sergeant Robert M. Boody, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 5 May 1862, while serving with Company B, 40th New York Infantry, in action at Williamsburg, Virginia. Sergeant Boody, at then a corporal, at great personal risk, voluntarily saved the lives of and brought from the battlefield two wounded comrades. A year later on 2 May 1862, at Chancellorsville, Virginia, he voluntarily, and at great personal risk, brought from the field of battle and saved the life of Captain George B. Carse, Company C, 40th New York Volunteer Infantry.
