Headquarters, U.S. Forces, Pacific, General Orders No. 225 (October 5, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Paul B. Davis (ASN: 6274674), United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with Battery C, 60th Coast Artillery (Anti-Aircraft), Philippine Scouts, in action at Fort Mills, Philippine Islands, on 12 April 1942. When Fort Mills was exposed to intense shelling and severe bombing by the Japanese, a battery position, several buildings, fortifications, and much equipment were destroyed, causing many casualties, Sergeant Davis, with utter disregard for his personal safety, left a sheltered position and hastened to the scene of a demolished kitchen where a cook lay critically injured. Despite relentless enemy artillery concentrations and heavy bombing raids, he assisted in carrying the wounded men 100 yards on a litter to a waiting vehicle, precariously stationed himself on its top in order to keep the litter from falling off, and rode about a mile to the Malinta Tunnel Hospital where the wounded man could receive immediate treatment. Through his outstanding courage, initiative, and unfaltering determination, Staff Sergeant Davis rescued a wounded comrade and fully exemplified the gallant spirit of the dauntless defenders of Corregidor.
