The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to First Sergeant Patrick DeLacey, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 6 May 1864, while serving with Company A, 143d Pennsylvania Infantry, in action during the Wilderness Campaign, Virginia. Running ahead of the line, under a concentrated fire, First Sergeant DeLacey shot the Color Bearer of a Confederate regiment on the works, thus contributing to the success of the attack.
