    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Brigadier General Beverly Fielding Browne, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I. General Browne organized and conducted the schools for artillery information service and the counter battery service in France in October and November 1917. He participated in preparation and execution of artillery plans for First Army for the St. Mihiel offensive in September 1918, and commanded the 166th Field Artillery Brigade in October 1918, and the Corps Artillery, First Army corps, 1 to 11 November 1918, during the final assault of the First Army. His high professional attainments, sound tactical judgment, and devotion to duty contributed materially to the successful operation of the American Expeditionary Forces.
