The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Captain Maurice G. Gaillot, Army of France, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 36th Regiment, Colonial Infantry, Army of France, near Chateau-Thierry, France, July 31 to 6 August 1918, and near Soissons, France, August 25 to 1 September 1918. Throughout the two campaigns Captain Gaillot accompanied every officer’s patrol, fearlessly exposing himself to heavy machine-gun and artillery fire, rendering invaluable service to the regiment to which he was attached.
