    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private Martin Yanchulis (ASN: 547640), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company I, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Crezancy, France, 15 July 1918. Although severely wounded, Private Yanchulis made his way through the terrific enemy barrage to his post in the fire trenches, and remained on duty until ordered to the rear by his commanding officer.

    By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Martin Yanchulis (ASN: 547640), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company I, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, although severely wounded, Private Yanchulis proceeded through the German barrage of 15 July 1918, to his post in his platoon’s fire trenches near Crezancy, France, and would not go back for medical attention until directed to do so by his Commanding Officer.
