The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Jerome E. Wagner (ASN: 94804), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company I, 166th Infantry Regiment, 42d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Seicheprey, France, 12 September 1918. When concentrated machine-gun fire was encountered, Corporal Wagner maneuvered his squad to a point near the nests, and, although severely wounded, continued to direct his men in silencing the guns.
