    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Clarence Leroy Sybert (ASN: 77372), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company M, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Landres-et-St. Georges, France, 2 November 1918. Although severely wounded, Private Sybert remained in the action during the offensive operations west of the Meuse, and after the sergeant in charge had been removed he took over his duties as commander of the battalion runners, faithfully performing the task despite his pain from his wounds.
