The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private George Strawbridge (ASN: 105576), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 2d Machine-Gun Battalion, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Fleville, France, 5 October 1918. Private Strawbridge administered first aid to a wounded comrade under heavy machine-gun and artillery fire, and although wounded himself, he refused evacuation, remaining on duty with the company during the entire action.
