Stowell (ASN: 71524), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company C, 104th Infantry Regiment, 26th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near St. Remy, France, 12 September 1918. When his platoon was held up by machine-guns Corporal Stowell volunteered with two others and charged an enemy machinegun nest, capturing two guns, 1 trench mortar, and 12 prisoners.
