The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private First Class Joseph Siade (ASN: 1290177), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 116th Infantry Regiment, 29th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Molleville Farm, France, 15 October 1918. Private Siade remained in the face of heavy enemy machine-gun fire to administer first aid to a wounded officer, showing utter disregard for his personal safety. He later carried the officer through a heavily fire-swept zone to a place of shelter.
