The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private Don Edward Sharp (ASN: 17106), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Medical Detachment, 125th Infantry Regiment (Attached), 32d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, during the Aisne-Marne offensive, France, 31 July 1918. Though he had been twice wounded, Private Sharp continued to render first aid to the wounded men of his command until killed by enemy fire. His splendid example of high courage and coolness under intense enemy machine-gun and artillery fire and his unselfish devotion to duty inspired his comrades to great endeavors.
