The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Staff Sergeant Terry L. Gilden, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States from February 1982 to April 1983 while serving as Team Member, 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-DELTA, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. During this period, he continually displayed superior skills, drive, and concern for his fellow soldiers. His innovative ideas were instrumental in the organization and instruction of tactics and techniques for use in his unit in the national defense effort. He further displayed an important role in many high-level missions vital to the nation’s security. His six years of faithful service and commendable performance were in keeping with the proudest traditions of military service and reflect the utmost credit on him and the United States Army.
