The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Carl G. R. Ross, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 105th Infantry Regiment, 27th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, east of Ronssoy, France, 29 September 1918. When his company was held up by an enemy machine-gun post First Lieutenant Ross advanced alone against it and succeeded in putting it out of action, exhibiting great bravery and gallantry, which was a splendid example to all ranks.
