The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant (Medical Corps) John P. Rosenwald, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Medical Detachment, 151st Field Artillery (Attached), 42d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Pexonne, France, on 5 March 1918. First Lieutenant Rosenwald twice entered the quarry of Battery C, 151st Field Artillery, under heavy shell fire, in order to care for the wounded. He died 6 May 1918, of wounds received in action.
