(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: General John Rogers Galvin, United States Army, was awarded the Army Distinguished Service Medal for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States as Commanding General, VII Corps, Germany, from 1983 to 1985.
Under the provisions of Executive Order 11545, July 9, 1970, the Secretary of Defense of the United States of America take pleasure in awarding the Defense Distinguished Service Medal to General John Rogers Galvin, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service contributing to national security and defense, in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, as Commanding in Chief, U.S. Southern Command, Panama, from 1985 to 1987. The distinctive accomplishments of General Galvin reflect great credit upon himself, the United States Army, and the Department of Defense.

(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Colonel (Infantry) John Rogers Galvin, United States Army, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. Lieutenant Colonel Galvin distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, in action against the enemy in 1969 and 1970. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Lieutenant Colonel Galvin, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
