The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Captain (Corps of Engineers) Myron Hall Peck, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 2d Battalion, 2d Engineers, 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at St. Etienne, France, 9 October 1918. While in command of his battalion, holding part of the line in St. Etienne, Captain Peck personally conducted a reconnaissance, after pervious patrols had failed, in order to establish liaison with the troops on his right. Captain Peck lost his life during this reconnaissance.
