The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Marvin A. Williams (ASN: 0-1320210), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 314th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 11 October 1944 in France. Immediately following an attack Captain Williams was called forward by the battalion commander to receive orders for the employment of his machine gun platoons in building up defensive lines. As he moved forward, he was caught in a heavy artillery barrage and wounded. Despite his painful wounds, he refused evacuation and continued to help in organizing defensive lines until the lines were fully established. The courage and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Williams reflect high credit on himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
