The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant Edwin H. Williams (ASN: 35671576), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the *** Infantry Regiment, 83d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 26 July 1944, near ****, France. Technical Sergeant Williams worked his way forward under heavy machine gun fire with total disregard for his personal safety and coolly directed the adjusted devastating artillery and mortar fire. So effective was his performance of duty that two enemy machine guns were destroyed and two more put out of action. Technical Sergeant Williams’ conspicuous heroism and undaunted determination reflect the highest credit on himself and the finest traditions of the armed forces of the United States.
