Headquarters, 2d Armored Division, General Orders No. 38 (1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Theodore Waltrip, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as a litter bearer in the 2d Armored Division, in action against the enemy on 29 July 1944, in France. Private First Class Waltrip gave medical aid to wounded men form his platoon and a nearby tank platoon when a large German armored column engaged them in battle near St. Martin de Cenilly. Disregarding enemy and friendly artillery, mortar and machine gun fire, he remained at the task alone until help was received in the evacuation of the wounded. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
