The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Arthur R. Thomas (ASN: 37307517), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 743d Tank Battalion (Separate), attached to the 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 25 July 1944, in France. When friendly planes inadvertently bombed Technician Fifth Grade Thomas’ platoon position, serious casualties were suffered. Technician Fifth Grade Thomas left the shelter of his half-track, ran across the area, and took the place of a litter bearer who had been wounded. Amidst the falling bombs he administered first aid to the wounded. His gallant actions gave comfort to the wounded and materially assisted in saving the lives of several seriously wounded men. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Technician Fifth Grade Thomas, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
