The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Lowell L. Stomm (ASN: 35343077), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division on 1 August 1944, in France. Private Stomm was assigned to duty with an infantry element making an attack against a strongly fortified enemy position. The assault against the hostile force was held up by the enemy tanks and it was necessary to put them out of action before it could be continued. Private Stomm voluntarily moved forward into a terrain known to be held by enemy infantrymen in order to fire rockets into the tanks. His deadly fire destroyed one of the tanks and forced the other to withdraw, which in turn enabled his comrades to capture their objective. The personal bravery and aggressive determination exhibited by Private Stomm reflect great credit on himself and are in keeping with the highest traditions of the Armed Forces.
