The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Louis Silvestri (ASN: 16063349), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 118th Field Artillery Battalion, 30th Infantry Division on 9 August 1944, in France. Technician Silvestri was assigned to duty with a field artillery unit. An intense shelling by the enemy set fire to a truck loaded with ammunition in the motor park in which Technician Silvestri’s vehicles were bivouacked. Despite the peril of the exploding ammunition, Technician Silvestri unhesitatingly ran to the truck and procured a fire extinguisher with which he battled the flames. Despite the fact that enemy artillery was still falling in the area he courageously continued his efforts until the blaze was extinguished. As a result of his actions, danger to personnel was averted and valuable properties were saved. The personal courage and unselfish devotion to duty exhibited by Technician Silvestri reflect great credit on himself and the Armed Forces.
