The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) George Harvey Sibbald (ASN: 0-1291023), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 16 October 1944, in Germany. During the course of a diversionary attack by his company, Captain Sibbald distinguished himself by his personal bravery and leadership. He maneuvered his company so skillfully and so inspired his men by his courageous action that their mission was completed in a highly successful manner. Upon completion of his mission, Captain Sibbald, even though under heavy enemy fire, personally checked the forward areas to ascertain that all the wounded had been evacuated for medical treatment. The bravery, aggressive determination, and exemplary leadership exhibited by Captain Sibbald reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
