Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 209 (November 3, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Arthur W. Schultz (ASN: 42113143), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 16 November 1944, in Germany. When contact had been lost with a platoon, Sergeant Schultz made his way through an enemy mine field under deadly fire to establish contact. On his way he encountered two seriously wounded men and after rendering first aid he continued on and succeeded in contacting the unit. Then returning with this information, he again made the hazardous trip forward, guiding litter teams to the two wounded men and laying a communication wire to the forward platoon. After returning the second time to the company command post, Sergeant Schultz voluntarily led another platoon through the enemy fire to the advanced positions where they quickly established a strong defense. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Sergeant Schultz, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
