The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Anton J. Rotchadl (ASN: 37600562), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 25 February 1945, in Germany. Gallantly exposing himself to machine gun fire which was centered directly on his position and already wounded him, Private Rotchadl drew the fire again and was wounded once more as a result to warn his comrades of their grave danger. Waving an aid man away that he would not be wounded, Private Rotchadl remained in his position for a very long period warning other men away and suffering a third wound in his heroic stand. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private Rotchadl, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
