    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Nicholas Hugo Krayer (ASN: 1210537), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company E, 107th Infantry Regiment, 27th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Ronssoy, France, 29 September 1918. During the attack on the Hindenburg line, after all officers in his company had been killed, Corporal Krayer exposed himself to heavy machine-gun fire to reorganize his command. He went from shell hold to shell hole, and by his courageous example inspired his men to continue the advance.
