    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Lieutenant (Infantry) James Pryn King, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 122d Machine-Gun Battalion, 33d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Consenvoye, France, 10 October 1918. While in command of a machine-gun platoon attached to the 131st Infantry, Lieutenant King, by personal reconnaissance established machine-gun and automatic-rifle outposts. During a threatened counterattack he exposed himself to point-blank fire and walked from outpost to outpost reassuring his men.

First Lieutenant (Infantry) King distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with the 122d Machine-Gun Battalion, 33d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Consenvoye, France, 10 October 1918, and by his brilliant leadership. [This award was rescinded under GHQ, American Expeditionary Forces, Citation Orders No. 8 (March 1, 1920) as the recipient has been awarded a Distinguished Service Cross for deed including this act.]
