The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private William C. Jordan (ASN: 16012407), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 10th Infantry Regiment, 6th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 22 July 1944, in the vicinity of Vidourville, France. Private Jordan was a platoon runner engaged in repairing telephone communication from the company command post to an outlying automatic weapons platoon. During a heavy enemy artillery and mortar barrage over the entire area, necessitating the men to seek cover, Private Jordan refused to seek cover and, ignoring personal safety, continued to work until hit by enemy shrapnel which resulted in his death. Private Jordan’s outstanding act of heroism reflects great credit to himself, and is in keeping with the highest traditions of the armed forces.
