The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Technical Sergeant Horace W. Hall (ASN: 36504235), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 315th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 9 July 1944 in France. Sergeant Hall was leading the advance elements of his platoon when they were suddenly ambushed by an enemy machine gun unit. Unhesitatingly Sergeant Hall climbed over a hedgerow and single-handedly charged the enemy position, eliminating the position, and in so doing sacrificed his own life. For his gallantry and fearless devotion to duty Sergeant Hall reflects highest credit on himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
