The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Harry W. Atkinson, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 21st Tank Battalion, 10th Armored Division, in action against an armed enemy during a raging battle near Schendgen, Germany, during World War II. Sergeant Atkinson gallantly evacuated a wounded comrade and braved intense enemy fire to repel numerous German counter attacks. His actions reflect great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
