Headquarters, 84th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 29 (1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) William K. Anderson, United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with the 84th Infantry Division, in action in Belgium on 5 January 1945. With complete disregard for enemy artillery and small arms fire, by his selection of advantageous positions for his machine guns, Lieutenant Anderson contributed materially to the advance of this unit. On one occasion when enemy fire had temporarily halted the movement of this section, Lieutenant Anderson, moving forward alone, killed two Germans and returned with 16 others as prisoners. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
