    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Edgar C. Davis (ASN: 2387703), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company H, 61st Infantry Regiment, 5th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Dun-sur-Meuse, France, 5 November 1918. Sergeant Davis. voluntarily advanced alone against an enemy machine-gun which was holding up his platoon, capturing four prisoners had failed in an attempt to cross the Marne, Sergeant Davis, with three companions, crossed the river in daylight and, in full view of the enemy, remained in enemy territory throughout the day.
