Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 870 (December 21, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Thomas C. Wyatt (ASN: 0-958704), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters Company, (then Company F), 2d Battalion, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 13 and 14 September 1951 in the vicinity of Satae-ri, Korea. On these dates, Lieutenant Wyatt’s company was engaged in a fierce fire fight with a numerically superior enemy force. During this encounter, his unit was ordered to withdraw to more tenable positions. Lieutenant Wyatt with complete disregard for his personal safety, placed himself at the head of the friendly elements that was assigned to fight a rear guard action. Although the enemy fire was directed on his group, Lieutenant Wyatt courageously crossed the fire-swept area to deploy and encourage his men. Although stunned by a hand grenade burst, Lieutenant Wyatt reorganized his company and led them in a successful counterattack. His resolute determination and great courage materially aided in the successful completion of their mission. The gallantry in action displayed by Lieutenant Wyatt reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
