The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Captain (Infantry) Robert Lee Timmons (ASN: 0-1325681), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 1st Battalion, 5th Regimental Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 23 August 1950, while leading his company in attack on Sobuk-san, Korea, Captain Timmons was painfully wounded but refused to be evacuated. Heedless of the concerted fire he continued to lead his company, encouraging the men and directing their fire. When he became too weak to stand he was placed on a litter from which position he directed mortar fire upon the enemy until he was mortally wounded. The extraordinary heroism displayed by Captain Timmons was in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
