The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Colonel (Infantry) Alfred L. Pearson, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 29 March 1865, while serving with 155th Pennsylvania Infantry, in action at Lewis’ Farm, Virginia. Seeing a brigade forced back by the enemy, Colonel Pearson seized his regimental color, called on his men to follow him, and advanced upon the enemy under a severe fire. The whole brigade took up the advance, the lost ground was regained, and the enemy was repulsed.
