    Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 384 (August 1951), Amended by G. O. No. 434 (1951) & G. O. 560 (1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant Leonard L. Mosier (ASN: RA-17204665), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 17 May 1951, in the vicinity of Kunmul-gol, Korea. On that date Company C was attacked by a superior enemy force and was slowly being forced back by threats of encirclement and annihilation. Sergeant Mosier, with complete disregard for his own safety, crawled from one friendly position to another through intense enemy small arms and automatic weapons fire in order to inform all of his men of the expected withdrawal. Even though some of his comrades were surrounded by the enemy, he made his way to them under the withering fire of the enemy. His outstanding courage and self-sacrificing devotion to duty and to his comrades were an inspiration to all who witnessed this outstanding act of heroism. The gallantry in action displayed by Sergeant Mosier reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
