Hasbrouck (ASN: 0-8588), United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility as Commanding General of the 7th Armored Division in the European Theater of Operations from 1 November 1944 to August 1945. (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Major General Robert Wilson Hasbrouck (ASN: 0-8588), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as Commanding General of the 7th Armored Division, in action against during the battle for St. Vith, Belgium, from 16 to 21 December 1944. Major General Hasbrouck personally directed his division’s operations in the vicinity of St. Vith to halt the German drive on Liege. His division held St. Vith against eight German divisions for six days, which allowed the United States FIRST Army to establish defensive positions. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Major General Hasbrouck, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
