First Lieutenant Hackett distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving with Military Assistance Command, Vietnam as an Advisor in IV Corps, in action against the enemy on 24 May 1971. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by First Lieutenant Hackett, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
