Godfrey Ames graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Class of 1937. He was taken Prisoner of War after the fall of the Philippine Islands in 1942, and survived the Bataan Death March. After being put aboard the Japanese “Hell Ship” Oryoku Maru” for transport to Japan, he survived the sinking of that ship on December 15, 1944, but subsequently died of his wounds.
