Headquarters, 45th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 94 (1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Irwin H. Brocker (ASN: 35124842), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 8th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Germany, on 6 October 1945. Sergeant Brocker was a member of a platoon which, while advancing towards its objective, encountered unexpected German resistance. Ne enemy machine gun, which was difficult to locate, menaced part of the platoon. After Careful observation, Sergeant Brocker determined the location of the gun and set out alone in an attempt to eliminate it. He crawled to within a few yards of the German position before being discovered by the machine gunner. The German turned the gun on him but Sergeant Brocker fired first and killed the gunner with the first shot. He then boldly moved pas the gun position and killed two other enemy soldiers who had been manning another gun. His aggressive action undoubtedly prevented many casualties within his platoon. The courage, alertness, and determination displayed by Sergeant Brocker reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
