Leonard Godfray graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Class of 1936. He was killed in action as a U.S. Army Major on D-Day at Normandy France, in World War II.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Major (Infantry) Leonard Clement Godfray (ASN: 0-20344), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as Support Officer, Service Company, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Normandy, France, on 6 June 1944. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Major Godfray, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
